"Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above."~Gia Carangi

"When you die there’s gonna be a tombstone, and on that tombstone there’s gonna be a name, and there’s gonna be a date. And for me, it’s going to be 1987, and then it’s gonna have a dash.… I want that dash to mean something. I want that dash to be special. I want that dash to represent that I finished strong." ~ Tim Tebow

"we're alive right now. we are breathing. we are loved. we have voices and stories and dreams and ideas. we have hope. we will wake up tomorrow to a day that has never been known. we are living a life that has never been lived. WE ARE HERE FOR A REASON." ~ Jamie Tworkowski, To Write Love On Her Arms

"How we remember, what we remember and why we remember form the most personal map of our individuality." ~ Christina Baldwin

Memory is a selection of images. Some elusive, others printed indelibly on the brain. Each image is like a thread. Each thread woven together to make a tapestry of intricate texture and the tapestry tells a story and the story is our past. ~From "Eve's Bayou"

"The soul is a veiled light. Neglect it, and it will dim and die,, fuel it with the sacred oil of love, and it will burn with an immortal flame. (Sung at the temples of Ammon-Ra)" ~ From the cover of Andreas Vollenweider's "White Winds"

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king. ~ Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien

Hal Sparks: Charmageddon - Gay Marriage

(via echelonslostangel)

Time for a little rant about topical news issues.

As the debate about same sex marriages rumbles on, I find it incredibly hard to believe that in a so called ‘modern’ society that there are so many uneducated people that believe this is fundamentally wrong.

First I would like to point out that Marriage has been around for an awful lot longer than Christianity and other modern religions, and that indeed the first recorded mention of same sex marriage actually took place in the early period of Ancient Rome. Now for those of you who don’t know when the Roman empire evolved it was actually founded by Romulus at the age of 18 on April 21st 746 BC. Cicero wrote about these unions using the Latin verb for “to marry”, ‘Nubere’.

It may also be of interest to you that several Roman Emperors were married to men, the first being Nero who according to records married two other men as well…
Similar practices took place throughout Greece, parts of China ,especially Fujian province and Europe.

When Christianity was invented and spread same sex marriage was outlawed by Christian Emperors Constantius 2nd and Constan in 342 AD in the ‘Theodosian code (C TH. 9.7.3) ’ The law was particularly harsh and ordered all those in same sex marriages to be exectued.

But Marriage has been around a lot longer that this, Some of the earliest written records appear in an ancient Babylonian text written in 1790 BC called the ‘Hammurabi’s code’. I bring this to your attention to point out that the ‘church’ DID NOT INVENT MARRIAGE and so has no ‘intellectual property rights’ to the word or its meaning as it claims to do…How can you own a word and the idea that it represents?

omg one of the articles in my SOL book has me crying in the library. Seriously. It’s talking about Same-Sex equality and this one is about a couple and does on Sept. 11th. The surviving partner sued, teaming up with other surviving partners. They won and a state Senate bill passed to ensure surviving partners of people kills on 9/11 could get compensated. But it only extends as far as 9/11.

I’m all for minority/women’s/gay rights, but—

Karen Santorum: Gays ‘vilify’ my husband

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s wife, Karen, on Monday accused the gay community of vilifying her husband.

At an event with mothers in South Carolina, a woman, who said her son was gay, told the candidate that she felt guilty for supporting him due to his opposition to gay rights.

“I still have that sense of guilt because his friends react to what they hear,” the woman explained. “Help me. How do I deal with that?”

Karen Santorum spoke up in defense of her husband.

“As Rick’s wife, I have known him and loved him for 23 years,” she said. “I think it’s very sad what the gay activists have done out there. They vilify him. It is so wrong. He loves them. What he has simply said is marriage shouldn’t happen.”

“As far as hating, it’s very unfortunate that has happened,” Karen Santorum added. “A lot of it is backyard bullying, where people will come up to us and they’ll say something. And we’ll ask them to give us an example, and they can’t even provide one example as to why they took the position they took.”

After Santorum compared homosexuality to “man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be” in an interview with The Associated Press in 2003, gay activist Dan Savage created a website redefining the former Pennsylvania senator’s last name as “the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.”

For years, Google has returned Savage’s website as the top search result for “Santorum.”

“The Internet allows for this type of vulgarity to circulate,” the candidate complained to Roll Call last year. “It’s unfortunate that we have someone who obviously has some issues. But he has an opportunity to speak.”

Speaking to CafeMom’s “Moms Matter 2012″ on Monday, Santorum said he was “doing what I’m called to do, which is to love everyone and accept everybody.”

“This is a public policy difference,” he said. “And I think the problem is that some see that public policy difference as a personal assault, that because I believe that marriage, which has existed before governments existed — marriage existed from the very beginning of time — it’s the way we were meant to be.”

Is she crying? Is all of this over THIS?

*sniff* Won’t SOMEBODY think of the bigots?

As well should the LGBTQ community vilify Rick Santorum. I reserve the right to vilify him as he has vilified me and people like me on a regular basis. Fuck him and the high horse he rode in on.

I like that he’s now trying to characterize his obvious hatred of non-straight people as a “public policy disagreement.” All of a sudden (after kinda becoming a contender) he’s now pretending that it’s just “gay marriage” he’s opposed to and that has nothing to do with him being a bigoted puddle of shit lube. What he really wants is to “welcome and accept everybody”….

-Joe

Lady, I could be sick all over you and your pwecious tears. Save it for when some nasty majority power declares that your marriage to your husband is legally invalid because you’re a lesser class of human, OK?

I’m just gonna have to quote Hollywood here: “and this motherfucker is serious.”

Gay people are born into and belong to every society in the world. They are all ages, all races, all faiths. They are doctors and teachers, farmers and bankers, soldiers and athletes. And whether we know it, or whether we acknowledge it, they are our family, our friends, and our neighbors. Being gay is not a western invention. It is a human reality.
